Colic

It is some sort of cramp in the stomach causing pain.

Causes:

  • There are a lot of views but none could be settled for. It is very unclear. Some of the believed views are:
  • Baby's intestine is working too hard leading to cramps.
  • Bowel movement is too slow leading to air bubbles in the bowel that make the intestines swell causing the pain.
  • Eating too fast or eating too much without proper burping.

Symptoms:

  • Baby cries Loud for hours and cannot be comforted.
  • Pain is in same time during the day.
  • Bowel pains.
  • Pulls up their feet under their body and clenches their fists.
  • Baby produces a lot of wind.

Comforting:

  • Rocking movement may calm them down.
  • Wrapping in a blanket or held tightly may help. They feel warm and secure.
  • Sometimes walking around with them helps
  • Burp the child often
  • Change the product if the child is on diet supplements such as powder milk.
  • Sometimes all they need is attention.
  • If nothing helps call the doctor.

Note:

  • All babies do not suffer from colic.
  • It is a very difficult time and challenging for the parents to cope. Share responsibilities and take help from others. Try to keep your health fine, it is the most essential thing at that moment. Remember, colic is only temporary - from 3 weeks to about 3 months.
