Constipation

Constipation is not a disease but a symptom. It is defined as passing of hard stool. With age, often passing of stool becomes irregular and can range from twice a day to twice a week. There is nothing to worry.

Causes:

  • Not really predictable
  • Can be due to diet
  • Can be due to medication
  • Lack of exercise
  • Control of bowel movement consciously
  • Too much of stress can be a reason as well

Prevention:

  • Increase fiber intake
  • Drinking plenty of liquid
  • Active life
  • Treatment in serious cases (only under medical supervision):
  • Some laxatives may help

Note:

Use of laxative too often can make the situation worse.
