Dry eye syndrome
When the eye does not produce sufficient tears for lubrication of the eye, the condition is known as dry eye.
Symptoms:
- Stinging or burning eye
- Eye irritation from light, smoke, or wind
- Scratchiness
- A lot of mucous in the eye.
- Wearing contact lens become very painful.
Causes:
- Many medications can cause it - antihistamines, diuretics, sleeping pills, pain killers.
- Old age.
Treatment:
- Eye drops similar to your own tears.
- Closure of tear drains prevent drainage and thus retain the tear for longer.
- Avoid air driers and room heaters
- Avoid smoking
