Endometriosis

It is a condition in which the tissues that lines the uterus (endometrial tissue) grow outside the uterus and attaches to other organs in the abdominal cavity.

Symptoms:

• Can cause a lot of pain in the abdominal area.
• Inflammation of the abdominal area.
• Causes infertility.
• Digestive problems are common

Cause:

There are many views but to be honest it is unclear.

Test:

Laparoscopy

Treatment:

• Only given when symptomatic.
• First line is usually Hormonal therapy.
• Finally surgical - could be from ablation of endometriotic tissue by laser or diathermy or excision of such tissue to hysterectomy. Surgery is advisable only for disabling symptoms generally.
