Endometriosis
It is a condition in which the tissues that lines the uterus (endometrial tissue) grow outside the uterus and attaches to other organs in the abdominal cavity.
Symptoms:
- Can cause a lot of pain in the abdominal area.
- Inflammation of the abdominal area.
- Causes infertility.
- Digestive problems are common
Cause:
There are many views but to be honest it is unclear.
Test:
Laparoscopy
Treatment:
- Only given when symptomatic.
- First line is usually Hormonal therapy.
- Finally surgical - could be from ablation of endometriotic tissue by laser or diathermy or excision of such tissue to hysterectomy. Surgery is advisable only for disabling symptoms generally.
