Hearing loss

Progressive loss of hearing due to age is common. It is called Presbycusis.

Symptoms:

  • Hearing becomes difficult
  • Sounds come in unclear.
  • Back ground sounds may cause difficulty in hearing

Causes:

  • Accumulation of ear wax
  • Damage of the inner ear
  • Ear infection
  • Ruptured eardrum

Treatment:

  • Removal of wax
  • Hearing aids
  • Cochlear implants (when inner ear is damaged).

Prevention:

  • Regular cleaning of ear wax
  • Avoid loud noise
  • High speed movements without ear protection should be avoided.
