Hernia
It is the bulging of an organ or tissue through an abnormal opening in the body. Most common hernias are caused when a piece of intestine protrudes from the abdominal wall appearing as a lump on the lower abdomen or groin.
Symptoms:
- Lump on the lower abdomen or groin
- Becomes more prominent when coughing, do exercise of lifting something heavy or stand for a long time.
- Pain in the lower abdomen
Causes:
Temporary relief:
- By eliminating exercise
- Wearing a truss or binder
Cure:
Surgical rectification
Note:
- Complications such as twisting of the intestine in the hernia may lead to death of that part of the intestine or distention of the tummy with inability to pass stools or flatus.
- Once surgically corrected, relapse is rare.
