Pneumonia
Infection of the lungs. It can be caused by many microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, or parasites.
Symptoms:
- Fever often with chills
- Cough
- Heavier and rapid breathing
- Vomiting
- Chest pain
- Weakness
- Abdominal pain
- Headache can accompany
Duration:
It is according to the causing organism. Bacteria generally take couple of weeks, Viruses about a month and Mycoplasma about a month and a half.
Prevention:
- Vaccines - some vaccines to viruses and bacteria are available.
- Some antibiotics can be given before hand to prevent infection (such antibiotics are called prophylactic antibiotics).
- Keep away from people who are infected.
Note:
In general, it is not contagious but the viruses that cause it can be.
