Girls - Women:

7-8 years

• Hormones are produced.
• No visible change.
• May have body odor: sweating is natural during puberty.

8-10 years

• Lump develops under the nipple: if tender, nonaspirin pain killers may help.
• Fine pubic hair is seen.
• Body weight increases.
• Hips start to get broader.

10-12 years

• Breasts grow: It is common to have breasts grow in different sizes.
• Growth is very fast; hips widen, and gain of body weight.
• Pubic hair becomes more prominent and curly.
• Vagina grows and vaginal discharge starts.

12-13 years

• Breasts continue to grow.
• Pubic hair increases and also hair under arms may start to appear.
• First period is around this time: personal hygiene is important. Pain killers can help during cramps. If the bleeding is heavy, call doctor immediately.
• Note: you are capable of getting pregnant once you start menstruating. If you are in sexual relationship, contraception is a must. Also, condoms can help prevent STDs. Read more.

13-14 years

• Breasts reach their final size.
• Periods become regular.
• Body shape and weight stabilizes.

Boys - Men:

8-9 years

• Hormones are produced.
• No visible change
• May have body odor: sweating is natural during puberty.

9-11 years

• Testicles and scrotum start to become bigger.
• Fine pubic hair may be seen.

11-12 years

• Penis starts to grow longer but not wider.
• Scrotum becomes darker and more wrinkled: first wet dream is natural. Also an urge to masturbate is common.
• Breasts may seem to develop (called gynecomastia): it is normal and is only a temporary condition.
• Facial hair is seen to appear.

12-14 years

• Period of very fast growth.
• Penis grows wider and longer.
• Testicles and scrotum continue to grow.
• Pubic hair increases and becomes more curly and coarse.
• Hair under arm pit is seen.
• Muscles develop and body structure becomes manlier.
• Voice becomes deep and masculine.
• Boys start to ejaculate.

15-16 years

• Growth is almost complete
• Penis and scrotum reaches final size.
• More pubic hair grows and it may grow up to the naval area.
• May have hair on your chest and a lot of facial hair.
