Testicular examination
Why?!
You must have gone through often medical tests whether it be for routine check-ups or for a health certificate. All the rest of the examination such as body weight measurement or blood test all makes sense. But why does the doctor need to feel my privates? It is so embarrassing!
There are two important things the doctor checks out by testicular examination:
- Hernia: Hernia in the scrotum can happen when the intestine pushes out into the scrotum as well. This is dangerous and can cause serious problems. This is felt by asking you to cough when he is pressing on in the area. The little bulge during coughing can be detected by him.
- Tumor: Testicular cancer is very rare in teenage but still it is the most common cancer seen in boys between 20-35 years of age. By rolling the fingers on the testicles the doctor feels hardening and lumps.
Note:
- It is a good idea to get your testicles tested once a year. Self examination often is a very good idea as well.
- It feels weird that somebody is looking and touching your testicles. Keep in mind, it is nothing the doctor does not see or touch countless times a day.
- Sometimes guys do get erections when the testicles are tested. It is no big deal. It is natural. Do not feel embarrassed as it does not bother your doctor.
