Long flights
What are the dangers?
During long flights, it is very dry causing dehydration. This results in a thicker blood. Due to thicker blood, the chance of blood clotting increases. Also cramped seating may result in less blood circulation at various locations again increasing the chances of blood clot. All these factors encourage clotting in the veins called as deep vain thrombosis (DVT).
How to avoid it?
- Drink a lot of water.
- Avoid alcoholic drinks on flights, they may increase dehydration.
- Move around.
- Aspirin may help to avoid this condition but take it only if recommended by your physician.
